George, if you just need to sand it to repaint, you can use 400 to 600 grit to final sand it with. However, if you are needing to strip the old paint off, I would start with something coarser, such as 180 to 220 grit followed by 320.

Hopw this helps answer your question. If not, let me know. Thanks, Donnie

Hey, I've got a question for you. I purchased a 2006 Kawasaki Ninja, the previous owner painted over the original paint with spray paint. No clear coat or anything, which I didn't notice when I bought the bike. The gas tank is metal, but everything else is plastic, it's been laid down before and does have some small cracks in the plastic. I decided to repaint the bike when I spilled a small amount of gas on the tank and when I wiped it away, it pulled some of the paint up with it. So what would you recommend I do to fix the bad paint job and hopefully make the bike look like it just came off the showroom floor? I'm very new to painting and will most likely be using spray paint also. Thanks for your help.

KBB and NADA are guides and not gospel. Real market trends are a better indicator of what vehicles are worth. If you plan on valuing your vehicle with a KBB type guide consider if you will also buy a sellers vehicle for KBB pricing too! It's only a guide.

CarFax is a very good tool when conisdering a purchase or selling your vehicle. Keep in mind CarFax is a reporting tool. So if you try to sell your vehicle and have done the work yourself and show no service records from a licensed and reporting service shop it will devalue your vehicle compared to someone who has plenty of service records to show.

And unfortunately, any dealer that has to buy or sell a vehicle with an accident reported on CarFax will hold it against you. Just as you would when considering a purchase.

From what I got out of the documentation and my I-Car rep. Points will be honored till the end of the year (2012). Points will change to credit hours in 2013 and if we do not purchase the new curriculum from I-Car our students may have to take an equivalency test.

The new curriculum looked to be about a two year degree (LOL)

I am against sending students out at a level one technician level. I think our job is to get students that have never done bodywork or painting before a taste of what it is like and see if they have what it takes to be a tech. Not everyone can paint or do bodywork!

I have students that have taken one of each of my classes Painting, Non Structural, Estimating, Mechanical, Chassis Measuring. Some students are good at one of these paths some are good at all. It is not so easy a Monkey can do it!

I don't agree with the new approach to curriculum nor the pricing. I left my complaint. Seems like corporate greed to me! For a tech to be level one by the end of this year will be a daunting task, none the less the cost of training.

What do i know though Donnie?
