Yes, you can add clear, which will decrease the amount of color being applies. However, the desired effect is whatever you like. If you like 2 to 3 coats better than 6 coat go with 2 to 3. Do a test panel. Spray the base and mask the panel with 6 strips of 2" tape. Spray 1 coat and pull a strip off, then another coat and pull a strip off. Do this untill all of the tape is pulled off. Then go ahead and clear coat it. Once dry, see which color you like the best. Then go with what looks the best. As far as the compressor, that sound a little small. I don't think that has enough volume to paint correctly. Clear should be applied full wet, to get the glossy appearance. 22 psi sound fine with an Iwata, but you will need more volume in my opinion.

i am learning how to work with house of color candy paint. When I open the can of candy they are dark in color and after spraying two coats its dark but the tech sheet says desired results in six coats. I called the hok tech line and Jeff said that I can dillute the candy with uc35 clear. Is this true. And one more question I dont have a high powered compressor it is a 2hp 29 gallon compressor and I am usind a transtar 1.4 gun which has 22psi inlet and gives 4cfm and 9.6psi at the cap. It is a lvlp spray gun. I dont have a place to put a two stage compressor setup at the moment but eventually I will. Should I raise the pressure to shoot the clear or leave it at 22psi? (my clear coat is coming out dull) And one more: would the Iwata lph 400 lvx orange cap work with my compressor, would you recommend it? Thank you.
